Sturdy Grinding and Machinery was contracted to perform carbon steel grinding for an automotive parts manufacturer. Our modern Cincinnati #2 OM centerless grinding machine equipped with a diamond roll dresser was employed to process 1045 carbon steel material to the required multi diameter profile. CNC turning was also carried out, and spline and gear hobbing machining process were performed to create the specified part teeth and detailing. The part was subjected to our developed deburring treatment for complete cleaning and smoothing. Finished part dimensions were 6.050” in length, with a diameter of 1.493”. A tight tolerance of ± 0.0003” was maintained throughout machining, and the units were finished to an Rmax of 3.5.
Comprehensive in process and post production testing was implemented to ensure accuracy and integrity, including dimensional, visual, finish, runout, roundness, and lead testing and inspections. We create 5,000 parts a week for this customer, with a typical turnaround time of 1 week.
